Maintenance Enhancement Laborer

Salary Range: $16.00 - $22.00 Hourly

The Enhancement Laborer performs installation of plant materials and irrigation modifications at designated job sites in accordance to pre-established schedules, specifications, and procedures established by Company policy and with specific direction from the Enhancement Foreman. The Associate ensures that all installations are completed in a timely manner and within all Company policies and procedures including safety requirements. The Enhancement Laborer has basic working knowledge of landscape components including: tools, equipment, plant material, soil amendments, irrigation parts, fittings and valves, and other items associated with landscape enhancement installations. Additionally, the Associate will have a fundamental understanding of plant material quality and basic horticulture.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs site rough and finish grading, installs: drainage, irrigation controllers and systems, plant material of varying sizes, mulch and bark, basic concrete flatwork and masonry.
  • Ensures that all materials are installed per plan detail and specification in preparation for turnover to maintenance.
  • Communicates with the Enhancement Foreman and fellow Associates frequently to ensure proper delegation of job duties and/or changes in methods, schedules and procedures.
  • Maintains accurate job records, and reports to the Enhancement Foreman any concerns regarding materials and installation quality immediately for prompt resolution.
  • Observes all Company safety and procedural polices.
  • Completes daily assignments efficiently and accurately to maintain the highest level of productivity.
  • Utilizes all assigned machinery, equipment and tools properly and safely making accident prevention a part of daily conduct.
  • Maintains a neat and organized work area including truck bed and cab, trailer and assigned field area.
  • Ensures accurate job records including time sheets.
  • Maintains strict punctuality at starting and ending times, break and lunch periods.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Basic working knowledge of landscape materials and their proper installation.
  • Must have the ability to interact effectively with other associates, customers, vendors and management.
  • Ability to read and interpret written and verbal orders.
  • Detail orientated and organized.
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative, personal awareness, a high degree of professionalism and business decorum while maintaining quality and technically proficient work.
  • Ability to efficiently and accurately use an electronic hand held device to record Associate time worked.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.

REQUIRED LICENSE/CERTIFICATION

  • Must possess a valid California Driver’s License and auto insurance.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Prior experience in the Landscape Maintenance Industry is not required.
  • Two years landscape installations experience strongly desired.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Lifting, carrying and manipulating objects up to 50 pounds for varying periods of time. Constant standing, sitting, walking, stooping, squatting, bending, climbing, twisting, traversing uneven ground, reaching, pulling, stretching, digging, grasping and gripping (hand tools and equipment), getting in and out of vehicles (vehicle cab and bed) throughout the day.
  • Must be able to wear all personal protective equipment according to company Safety Health and Environmental Policies, Industry Related ANSI Safety Requirements and OSHA Regulations.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Working conditions are outdoors with exposure to the following: Hot and cold temperatures, sudden changes in temperatures, varying levels of noise, slippery surfaces, rain, dust/dirt, fumes, wind, uneven ground and landscaped slopes.

EQUIPMENT/MACHINARY

A wide range of hand tools including but not limited to: hammers, wire cutters, rakes and shovels, motorized augers, wackers/compactors, backhoes, skid steers, grading tractors, excavators and grading equipment.
